"frequently asked questions "

Frequently asked questions about the Vivid Solutions Ltd. video conferencing network asked and answered.

Q.  How many video conferencing endpoints are on the NZTPS VC Network?

A.  As at January 2010 there were 158 connected endpoints throughout New Zealand.

Q.  Can I connect to video conferencing sites outside of the VSL VC Network?

A.  Yes. It is possible to connect outside of the VSL VC Network via both ISDN and Internet. These types of connections require booking and connect via the VSL Multipoint Control Unit (MCU), also commonly called a 'Bridge'. Conferences outside of the network will incur additional charges.

Q.  How do I book a conference with 1 other site?

A.  This is a point to point call and does not require booking with NZTP. Each site books their respective equipment/room and one site dials the other.

Q.  How do I book a conference with more than 1 other site?

A.  This is a multipoint conference and requires booking with VSL. Each site books their respective equipment/room and the co-ordinator of the meeting completes an VSL Video Conference Booking Form (available here or by request from the Helpdesk). Connection instructions are then issued.

Q.  Can I book the different video conferencing endpoints and rooms through VSL?

A.  No. There are different booking requirements at each site and we would therefore suggest that conference co-ordinators have the participants book rooms and endpoints.

Q.  How much notice is required to book a video conference?

A.  As setting up a booked video conference depends on the availability of resources on the VSL Multipoint Control Unit (MCU), we recommend booking as early as possible, and at least 7 days prior to the date of the video conference.

Q.  How many endpoints can participate in a multipoint video conference?

A.  Currently the VSL MCU is can be set to enable 128 participants into a single video conference.

Q.  Does the VSL VC Network support High Definition (HD)?

A.  Yes. The VSL MCU is HD enabled. However HD is a function of the Codec and the ability to send and receive HD depends on the type of endpoints used by conference participants.

Q.  What is a Codec?

A.  In video conferencing a Codec (Coder/Decoder) is the equipment that processes the video and audio signals and transmits this data between endpoints.

Q.  I am experiencing difficulty, what should I do?

A.  If you are experiencing difficulty performing a function with the remote control press the near button and try again. If this does not help, restart your equipment ie turn it off and then turn it on again. If you are still having difficulties phone the Helpdesk 0800 83 53 63.

Q.  How do I get help?

A.  Email support@vividsolutions.co.nz or freephone 0800 83 53 63.
